Maybe it’s the makeup. Maybe it’s the merchandising. Maybe, at the end of the day, it’s just the music itself. Whatever the source, it is safe to say that few bands have inspired as much fervent devotion—and also rabid derision—as the self-proclaimed “Hottest Band in the World,” Kiss.
While doing a bit of research on an upcoming story about noteworthy Deep Purple covers, we were reminded of this live 1992 performance of "Smoke on the Water" by Yngwie Malmsteen. Note that Malmsteen also sings on this version, doing double duty by handling the original roles of Ian Gillan and Ritchie Blackmore.

Often heralded as one of heavy metal's more outspoken personalities, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian has decided to hit the road in a stand-up/spoken-word format. His "Speaking Words" tour began with a few shows in the U.K. and spiraled into a short North American tour and a live DVD. Ian, who's in the middle of a two-week U.S. run, is running a Pledge Music campaign to fund the release of the Speaking Words In Glasgow DVD.
