Guitar World made history in Milan, Italy, on July 6, 2011, by getting Metallica’s James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett, Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine, Slayer’s Kerry King and Anthrax’s Scott Ian to pose for group photos — the first photos ever to feature all the guitarists of thrash metal’s momentous Big Four tour.
According to bassist Geddy Lee, Rush will release a new album in early 2012. Speaking to Rolling Stone, Lee said that the band were shooting for a Spring 2012 release date for their as-yet-untitled new studio album.
St. Vincent (aka Annie Clark) recently performed four tracks from her new album, Strange Mercy, for the 10th installment in the 4AD Session series. Shot at Shangri-La Studios in Brooklyn, the session was recorded with Annie's new band -- Daniel Mintseris (keys), Toko Yasuda (moog) and Matthew Johnson (drums).

Last night, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon had some special guests all the way from Antarctica: the mighty Gwar. Gwar took the stage on Fallon to promote their current tour with Every Time I Die and Ghoul, better known as the Return of the World Maggot Tour. You can check out a video from the performance below.
This is Spinal Tap was supposed to be a satirical peek into the decadent, self-contained world of early Eighties heavy metal -- at least as it applied to a group of aging rock stars. At some point, though, the movie transitioned from cult comedy to cultural institution (In 2002, the Library of Congress selected This Is Spinal Tap for preservation in the United States National Film Registry as a "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" film).
