I focused on the songwriting aspect more than the pure technical aspect of playing guitar this time. Some songs are more fun and what you'd expect from a rock/metal guitar instrumental record; others are just more intense with a darker mood, and others are a little more abstract. The more technical guitar playing is accompanied by a more soulful playing, and I love that. This album is pretty much the portrait of the guitar player I am today.

"I was very fortunate this time to work with two great musicians like bassist Ray Riendeau (James LaBrie, Star Monarchy, solo) and drummer Danny Handler (solo). That definitely created more the 'trio band' feel. They're like me, fans of heavy music, jazz and fusion, and those influences can make the difference when playing a certain style of music.

"I still love to layer a lot of guitar tracks and sometimes I go a little crazy with that. Writing instrumental music gives me the freedom to try whatever I feel would sound good. This project is my way to experiment and try different things. Every solo record is probably going to be very different from one to the other, and that’s why I do it.

"It also was great to have friends and incredible guitar players like Per Nilsson (Scar Symmetry), Ryan Knight (the Black Dahlia Murder) and Wes Hauch (ex-the Faceless) to do guest solos on one crazy track toward the end of the record. That song is pure madness!

"This song, 'Gates of Reason,' is one of the more 'traditional' and simpler ones, but I had so much fun working on it. It definitely has a progressive/rock vibe, and I think it’s a good introduction to the music on the record, even though there’s so much variety counting all 11 songs."

Stay tuned to Artusato's Facebook page for updates and more info about the new album. As always, tell us what you think of the song in the comments or on Facebook!

http://www.guitarworld.com/francesco-artusato-project-premiere-gates-reason-music-video-exclusive#comments Francesco Artusato the Francesco Artusato Project Videos News Thu, 21 Aug 2014 15:43:13 +0000 Damian Fanelli http://www.guitarworld.com/article/22174 Review: Martin D-18 Guitar — Blast from the Past http://www.guitarworld.com/acoustic-nation-review-martin-d-18-guitar-blast-past
These videos and audio files are bonus content related to the October 2014 issue of Guitar World. The body is a single piece made of Polyamide, which is an extremely tough and durable form of nylon. I’ve dropped the guitars a few times without damaging them.”

Inside the body frame is a wooden core to which the custom neck, made by Warmoth, attaches, and the core material matches that of the chosen neck material. “Customers can specify mahogany or maple necks and completely customize the electronics. They can also make minor modifications, like having their name, band logo, or other graphics 3-D printed on the back of the instrument at no extra cost. We can even adjust the weight to a player’s preference.”

ODD offers five guitar models — the Atom, Hive, Scarab, Spider and Spider LP — and three bass models — Atom, Hive and Spider LP — which range in price from $3,000 to $3,500. He's also been compared to a great lineage of Georgia-reared guitarists including Robert Cray and Duane Allman.

Although he was born with an incomplete right arm, Williams came up with a pick design that allowed him to play guitar when he was only 6 years old.

"My mother's father helped me come up with the design," he said. "I did most of it, and he made a few suggestions here and there. He probably had an idea for the whole thing but wanted to let me figure it out on my own. He was a brilliant, God-fearing and loving man. We were very close."

"I was knocked out by Lefty the first time I heard his music," said Blues stalwart Tinsley Ellis, who played on Williams' 2009 album, Snake Oil. "I just knew that I had to seek him out and hear more of his stuff. He is a veritable triple threat on certainly guitar, but also as a soulful vocalist and clever songwriter."

For more about Williams, visit lefty-music.com.

Lefty Williams Band on Tour:

8/22 Atlanta, GA VINYL
8/23 Athens, GA New Earth Music Hall
8/30 Oconee, TN (Chattanooga) Dumpy's
8/31 Charlotte, NC Area US National Whitewater Center
9/05 Bryson City, NC Nantahala Outdoor Center
9/06 Asheville, NC One Stop Deli
9/19 Charlotte, NC The Evening Muse
9/26 Jacksonville, FL Underbelly

http://www.guitarworld.com/lefty-williams-band-premiere-let-it-roll-music-video-exclusive#comments Lefty Williams Band Videos News Thu, 21 Aug 2014 14:11:31 +0000 Damian Fanelli http://www.guitarworld.com/article/22171 Dimebag Darrell Hosts Clinic and Q&A Session in 1993 — Video http://www.guitarworld.com/vintage-video-dimebag-darrell-hosts-clinic-and-qa-session-1993
Below, check out a video of a complete Dimebag Darrell clinic that took place June 3, 1993, in Arlington, Texas.

The Randall Amplifiers-sponsored clinic, which is basically a Q&A session (where Dime is practically begging the subdued crowd for questions), also features some fine shredding by Darrell.

The entire video is about an hour long. The majority of the songs on the album were recorded between December 1969 and the summer of 1970 at his New York City studio.

The original intention was to release it as a double album called First Rays of the New Rising Sun. That album was pieced together for a 1997 release featuring recordings with Mitchell, Billy Cox, Billy Miles and Noel Redding.

Rainbow Bridge, which also was compiled by Kramer and Mitchell and released in 1971, contained more music from the sessions that formed The Cry of Love. It features a studio version of "The Star Spangled Banner," plus a live recording of "Hear My Train a Comin'" from 1970.

Both albums will be available September 16.
<fieldset class="fieldgroup group-additional-content"><legend>Additional Content</legend>

Related Artist:

Jimi Hendrix

</fieldset> http://www.guitarworld.com/jimi-hendrixs-cry-love-and-rainbow-bridge-be-reissued-september#comments Jimi Hendrix News Wed, 20 Aug 2014 19:05:03 +0000 Guitar World Staff http://www.guitarworld.com/article/22169 Apple Now Selling JamStik Digital Guitar — Demo Video http://www.guitarworld.com/apple-now-selling-jamstik-digital-guitar-demo-video
This item comes to us courtesy of bizjournals.com.

Apple Inc. is now selling a digital guitar called the JamStik at about 71 of its U.S. stores.

The guitar, which is made by Minneapolis-based Zivix, is already available at some Apple retail locations; Apple will be begin selling it online September 9.
