The show must go on, and in the wake of lead guitarist Rob Caggiano's departure from Anthrax, the band have just announced that Shadows Fall guitarist Jon Donais will be filling in during the band's upcoming Metal Alliance tour dates.
With the year in music winding down, we reached out to some of your favorite guitarists to find out what music and gear rocked their worlds in 2012. Below,Periphery's Misha Mansoor fills us in on his five favorite pieces of gear in 2012.
Gretsch has added five models to its Roots Collection, a series of banjos, mandolins, resonator guitars, ukuleles and Rancher acoustic guitars that evoke the time before the company made its entry into the electric guitar world in the 1950s.

"For that one, Neil just started playing it and we all joined in. I think right before we began, he said something like, 'You know, when we go to the verse it goes to these changes…' and he showed us. Nobody really knew when that was gonna happen, but we just followed along. And there might have been some rough spots. I might have dropped my guitar down a couple times. [laughs] But other than that, that was it. That’s the first take. For years I’ve been telling people that when we get together and jam, it’s just like that. But it was never recorded. "
For their upcoming third full-length album, Wretched and Divine: The Story of The Wild Ones, Black Veil Brides turned their writing process upside-down. Instead of composing the music and then adding vocals as they did with 2010’s We Stitch These Wounds and 2011’s Set the World on Fire, the band crafted vocals and vocal melodies first, then encapsulated them with a variety of riffs and leads.
On the heels of their 2012 world tour, Crosby, Stills & Nash will tour in 2013, starting with a series of dates in May in the Southeastern US. The tour kicks off May 5 at the Hard Rock Live in Orlando, Florida, and concludes at the Hard Rock Casino & Resort in Biloxi, Mississippi, on May 25.
At this month's 2013 Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, California, Orange Amplification will launch its new Custom Shop 50 amp. The hand-wired amp has a vintage flavor, much like its predecessor, the Retro 50, which the new circuit is based on. Each Custom Shop 50 is built in the Orange custom shop.
