Satch and Cuniberti share production on Shockwave Supernova, as they have on 1986's Not of This Earth, its followup, Surfing with the Alien, and several other albums.

Shockwave Supernova is available for pre-order through Amazon and iTunes and also will be available as 2LP 120-gram vinyl.

For more about Satch and Shockwave Supernova, visit satriani.com.

<fieldset class="fieldgroup group-additional-content"><legend>Additional Content</legend>

Related Artist:

Joe Satriani

</fieldset> http://www.guitarworld.com/shockwave-supernova-joe-satriani-premieres-title-track-new-album/24925#comments Joe Satriani new song premiere Shockwave Supernova song premiere News Mon, 13 Jul 2015 14:36:35 +0000 Damian Fanelli 24925 at http://www.guitarworld.com Hear Indie Singer, and 'Louie' Actress, Eszter Balint Get Raucous on "Let's Tonight It" http://www.guitarworld.com/hear-eszter-balint-lets-tonight-it
If you're a fan of the sitcom Louie, you might recognize Eszter Balint as Louis C.K.'s Hungarian-speaking violin-playing love interest in Season 4. In 2014 she was making good progress writing material for the new album when out of the blue—after a long hiatus from acting—she was offered a part she couldn’t refuse. She agreed to be featured in a six-episode arc of Louis C.K.'s F/X series Louie, Season 4; her performance as his Hungarian girlfriend “Amia” earned her considerable critical praise. Eszter also improvised compositions, sang and played violin for the series. As soon as filming wrapped, Eszter returned to work on her album.

Airless Midnight boasts three of New York's most distinguished and original guitarists: Chris Cochrane (John Zorn, Zena Parkins, long time EB alumni) Dave Schramm (The Schramms, Yo La Tengo, others) and Marc Ribot (too many to name!). They are joined by drummer Brian Wilson (Johnny Dowd, Neko Case), JD Foster on bass, and Sam Phillips on vocal harmonies. Andy Taub and Don Piper engineered at Brooklyn Recording, and Adrian Olsen mixed with JD and Eszter at Montrose Recording. This is her third album working with Cochrane, producer Foster, and Taub, and her second with Ribot, with whom she has also worked on many other projects over the years. Eszter is featured on vocals, guitar, violin, melodica, mandolin, random sounds, whistling, and wrote all the songs.

After releasing her second album Mud in 2004, Eszter took a break from music and focused on parenting. Once her son started attending school, she began writing again, in part, "to keep sane while coping with a series of difficult personal circumstances." After a number of years spent writing and polishing these songs, doing studio sessions with other artists and resuming live performance, Balint felt she had a body of work worth capturing in the studio.

Eszter relates, “The songs were ripening. They were just at that point where they were starting to feel like they needed to be picked. And my desire to record was starting to burn me up. Not all of the tunes were completed when I decided to make a record, but the ones which were, it felt like they were going to be neglected in an unkind way if they didn't get recorded very soon."

What resulted is Balint’s most confident effort to date. The lyrics are cohesive and support strong, if mysterious, narratives with a decisive cinematic feel. The accompanying tunes are varied and strategically eclectic in approach. There’s more rock and punk influence here, which gives way to an eerie, calm spaciousness. These songs are artful, sophisticated yet earthy, there's guts and grit and beauty too; it’s an eloquent expression of her life experiences to date.

“My artistic education was first and foremost formed by growing up in an extended family of avant-garde theater makers, originally from Hungary, who created adventurous, surprising works and devoted their lives to taking artistic risks,” recalls Eszter. “My father was one of the founders of the Squat Theatre group, and my mother was also involved for a time. We settled in New York in 1977, when I was 11, and sometimes set W. 23rd Street, where we lived and performed... a little bit on fire with our performances which literally spilled out onto the street through the storefront where we lived and performed. My home during these formative years was not only where the company created and performed their plays, but it was also an open and revolving door welcoming the most adventurous musicians, filmmakers, visual artists, performers, and writers and painters of the time, as well as some of the renegades of hip hop culture. When we weren't performing, our space would be transformed into a music venue where among other jazz and blues greats, bands such as The Lounge Lizards, DNA, Sun Ra, Defunkt, and The Contortions regularly performed.

“By age 13 I had taken on my role as the house DJ, spinning records between sets. I believe these years were a pivotal moment in defining my sensibilities; I carried the blood of Central European artists, with all of their rich history, while during this time also becoming a full-fledged New Yorker, absorbing and integrating all around me with ease. It was during these years that I made my recording debut at age 15 playing violin on a track produced by artist Jean Michel Basquiat and featuring rapper Rammellzee. This life in the theater eventually also led to my being cast and appearing in a few films, mostly indie works, some of them quite memorable, and a few of which garnered much acclaim.”

Eszter starred in Jim Jarmusch's classic Stranger than Paradise, and was featured in Steve Buscemi's Trees Lounge, as well as worked alongside Mia Farrow and John Malkovich in Woody Allen's Shadows and Fog, among other film appearances.

She continues, “In 1995, while living in Los Angeles, I decided to fully devote my artistic energies to music-making and words writing, more specifically to becoming a performing and recording songwriter., I have two albums out, Flicker (1999) and Mud (2004), both produced by JD Foster, who has made wonderful records with Richard Buckner and Marc Ribot among many others, which were both received with critical praise.

“I have since been fortunate enough to have been asked to lend my violin playing and singing to works by people I consider true artists, most notably guitarist Marc Ribot, and Michael Gira of Swans fame," Eszter can be heard on violins on two Angels of Light albums as well as Swans' The Seer, and on vocals and other instruments on multiple Marc Ribot projects including Ceramic Dog's Your Turn, - a band she was a guest member of through 2009 - and on an upcoming album of Mr. Ribot's songs.

"But I'm most grateful of all that with the help of an incredible group of musicians I was able to finally build a home for these new songs. The process was such a joy."
http://www.guitarworld.com/hear-eszter-balint-lets-tonight-it#comments Eszter Balint indie musician Louis CK Marc Ribot premiere News Mon, 29 Jun 2015 15:12:26 +0000 Guitar World Staff 24825 at http://www.guitarworld.com Video Exclusive: Lullwater Premieres Unplugged “Get A Life” Video http://www.guitarworld.com/acoustic-nation-video-exclusive-lullwater-premieres-unplugged-get-life-video
Alternative rockers Lullwater have premiered a stripped, acoustic video for their song “Get A Life.” Filmed on the sidewalk right outside of the 40 Watt Club in their hometown of Athens, GA, the band released the video in anticipation for their set at that famed venue this Saturday, November 23rd.

“‘Get a Life’ started out as an acoustic song but was recorded electric for the new album, so it was an easy transition to the unplugged version,” comments Lullwater lead vocalist and guitarist John Strickland. “We kept most of the original song structure in place. Brett brought in a delay pedal which adds a lot of depth and texture and Joe switched to thunder sticks giving us the unplugged sound we wanted."

Having just released their self-titled album, this Saturday’s performance will mark five years since Lullwater has appeared on the 40 Watt stage.

Check out the video below, and if you live in the Athens, GA area, buy tickets for Saturday’s show here.

Find tour dates and learn more about Lullwater on their official site at http://www.lullwatermusic.com
http://www.guitarworld.com/acoustic-nation-video-exclusive-lullwater-premieres-unplugged-get-life-video#comments acoustic guitar Acoustic Nation Lullwater News premiere Blogs Videos Wed, 20 Nov 2013 07:30:01 +0000 Acoustic Nation 19810 at http://www.guitarworld.com Exclusive Premiere: Bow Thayer and Perfect Trainwreck — "Wreckoning" http://www.guitarworld.com/exclusive-premiere-bow-thayer-and-perfect-trainwreck-wreckoning
Bow Thayer and Perfect Trainwreck will release their new album, Eden, on March 5.

Written almost entirely on electric banjo, the album fuses experimental elements with Americana, rock, bluegrass and folk, resulting in a unique sound that has earned the Vermont-based band heaps of praise, not to mention descriptions ranging from “Green Mountain soul” to “modern backwoods music.”

Today, GuitarWorld.com brings you the exclusive premiere of "Wreckoning," a track off the new album. You can hear it below.

The album is co-produced/engineered by Justin Guip, who won three Grammys for his work with Levon Helm of The Band. Helm even played drums on Thayer's Spend It All album. Thayer was invited to perform six times at Helm’s Midnight Ramble concerts.

This album marks Thayer’s third with Perfect Trainwreck, a band featuring — in addition to Thayer on vocals, banjo and guitar — Jeremy Curtis (bass/vocals), Jeff Berlin (drums), James Rohr (piano/organ/keyboard) and Chris McGandy (pedal steel guitar).

“Not many people move to Vermont to pursue a career in music. But for me, it felt right, because the most important thing for me was to be able to write with my own voice,” Thayer says. “Because Vermont is so isolated and rural, I feel like I’m looking at society as an outsider, which is a big part of my perspective on this record. It also feels like we are in a bubble trapped in time in many ways. It’s beautiful and weird.”

Eden is Thayer’s first album of new material since Bottom of the Sky, which charted on the Americana Music Association’s Top 100 Albums and the Roots Music Report’s Top Rock Albums charts of 2011.

For more about Thayer, visit bowthayer.com.

Photo: Kelly Davidson

http://www.guitarworld.com/exclusive-premiere-bow-thayer-and-perfect-trainwreck-wreckoning#comments Bow Thayer Bow Thayer & Perfect Trainwreck exclusive Levon Helm listen premiere News Features Fri, 15 Feb 2013 17:13:57 +0000 Damian Fanelli 17806 at http://www.guitarworld.com Exclusive Video: Styx — "Fooling Yourself" from New Live DVD http://www.guitarworld.com/exclusive-video-styx-fooling-yourself-new-live-dvd
Today, Styx released a new live DVD, Styx: The Grand Illusion/Pieces Of Eight Live via Eagle Rock Entertainment. If there is a main message to the album, it’s that people should educate themselves and take control of the problems we have as a society rather than waiting on a government to do what’s right.” Robbie Pina, guitarist of Molotov Solution speaks on the inspiration behind their fourth full-length album Insurrection which was produced by Will Putney at The Machine Shop (Suicide Silence, Four Year Strong) in New Jersey. The album takes the band’s signature death metal foundation which is peppered by elements of hardcore and grind but marries it with a groove and swagger previous releases didn’t possess. Also in full display is technical guitar leads and parts that shred as well as deliver full body breakdowns.

This album is Molotov Solution’s first for the Blk Heart Group (No Bragging Rights, Destruction Of A Rose) and first since 2009’s Harbinger (on Metal Blade Records). Speaking on the difference from the last album Pina says “in the past I was the main songwriter of the band but with the addition of Jake (Durrett) on drums and Richie (Gomez) on guitar, those guys brought a lot of ideas to the table as well as sometimes whole songs to work with. Richie is very influenced by super lead tech metal like The Faceless so there’s that inspiration as well in his playing.”

Rounding out the group is Shane Slade (bass) and Nick Arthur (vocals). Arthur continues his signature lyrical assault and skeptical eye towards politics and society which has been a main mission of the band since it’s inception back in 2004. Forming in Las Vegas, NV Pina who was a founding member says “politics have always been a huge part of the band. We consider ourselves a socially conscious band that exists to educate the listener about world problems and to be on guard against the new world order, the loss of our freedom and the agenda to make one world currency.”

Catch the band on the Insurrection headlining tour with support from The Devastated and Fit For An Autopsy, dates and info at: Facebook.com/molotovsolutionofficial.
http://www.guitarworld.com/molotov-solution#comments Audio Hear It Now premiere News Features Mon, 26 Sep 2011 15:39:55 +0000 Guitar World Staff 12881 at http://www.guitarworld.com Exclusive Premiere: "Purple Haze" by Robert Randolph & The Family Band http://www.guitarworld.com/exclusive-premiere-purple-haze-robert-randolph-family-band
GuitarWorld.com presents this exclusive premiere of "Purple Haze" by Robert Randolph & The Family Band.

This tour-de-force live version of the classic Jimi Hendrix tune is from Robert Randolph & the Family Band Live In Concert, which will be released Tuesday, September 27, via Dare Records.

This career-spanning album was recorded during the band's recent U.S. tour and marks the group's first live collection since 2002's Live at the Wetlands. She collaborated with producers Larry Campbell, Ray Benson -- and Michael Nesmith of The Monkees.

Wonderland, who often is compared to Janis Joplin, dug deep into Joplin’s vault to find a rare bootleg of the little-known gem “What Good Can Drinkin’ Do.” Other stand-out tracks on the album include “Golden Stairs”; “Two Trains,” a tribute to Wonderland’s Houston mentors, including Little Screamin’ Kenny; and Wonderland’s take on Bob Dylan’s “Meet Me In The Morning.”

Wonderland has performed on PBS’ Austin City Limits and as part of a Janis Joplin tribute at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, collaborating with Levon Helm, Guy Forsyth, Susan Tedeschi and John Jorgenson.

Be sure to check her out on YouTube -- and, of course, listen to "Victory of Flying," below.

Click here for more info about Wonderland.
http://www.guitarworld.com/exclusive-premiere-victory-flying-new-song-carolyn-wonderland#comments Audio Carolyn Wonderland premiere News Features Thu, 08 Sep 2011 15:57:11 +0000 Damian Fanelli 12646 at http://www.guitarworld.com Interview with IKILLYA Guitarist Dave Kerr — Plus Free Download of "Jet Fuel Genetic" http://www.guitarworld.com/interview-ikillya-guitarist-dave-kerr-plus-free-download-jet-fuel-genetic
GuitarWorld.com is proud to offer this free download of "Jet Fuel Genetic" by NYC street metal band IKILLYA.

The song is from their 2011 album, Recon. You can stream the song -- and/or download it -- below, at the bottom of this story.

IKILLYA -- singer Jason Lekberg, guitarist Dave Kerr, bassist Mansa Gory and touring drummer Jeff Gretz (Zao/Austrian Death Machine) -- put an original spin on their metal, mixing melody, chunky grooves and serious chops.

I recently got to speak to Kerr about the new album, and he really speaks with passion about the band's music. The complex transitions and guitar techniques tie together a number of genres effortlessly -- and I understood how all of this was possible when we discussed his influences and the band dynamic.

GUITAR WORLD: After listening to Recon for the first time, I couldn't help but think it's Damageplan meets Megadeath -- but with a diversity that appeals to more than your everyday metal head. You guys are dropping anchors instead of hooks. Tell me a little bit about the band dynamic and your songwriting process.

It usually starts with either Mansa or myself writing a little riff or something. He'll come in with something recorded on his cell phone that he wants to share with me, and we'll just work on it and keep messing around with it until it sounds good.

You use the wah to positively enforce a great riff instead of just wailing on it like some people. Do you agree with my great depression statement, and what have you done to "break the mold"?

Haha, I will agree with that statement. For me it goes back to the older days of hearing Kirk Hammet, Mark Knopffler and Pink Floyd. Using it as expression more than sound, or even sometimes more as a filter. I don't listen to too many metal guitar players.

Tell me a little about your guitar and effects that create your powerful sound.

I have a PRS guitar that I use for bigger venues and recordings, and an Epiphone with emg pickups in it. Mesa Boogie amps, and I don't really use effects. I use the amp distortion, the wah, and an mxr analog delay. You don't need a lot of gain for a guitar riff to sound heavy.

Aside from being a beast on the guitar, what are some other hobbies or projects?

I don't know if it's actually a hobby, but I used to be a chef. I like to cycle, and New York City is a great place for that. I also have a small project on the side that's more like hip-hop funk.

What about your sound do you think appeals to people?

That's a hard question. For us it's just trying to make ourselves happy with what we play. Some of it is a little more aggressive rock, and I think people like that. But after you've been playing the same song out for a while, you start wondering how you can fix this piece or that piece, and for us it's really just about writing what sounds good.

You can stream or download "Jet Fuel Genetic" below. It's safe to say no one would have blamed Vogg for ending the band then and there.

A few years of soul-searching, and the support from family, friends and fans, has brought Decapitated back, with Vogg bringing in a lineup that comes as close as any could to recreating the energy that the original brought to the table.

GuitarWorld.com has the exclusive premiere of a brand-new song from Decapitated, titled "Homo Sum." The track comes from their new album, Carnival Is Forever, which is out July 12 on Nuclear Blast Records. Give it a listen below and then check out our interview with Decapitated mainman Waclaw "Vogg" Kieltyka.

GUITAR WORLD: This is the band’s 15th anniversary. How does it feel to have been around for so long under the Decapitated banner?

VOGG: It's awesome!!! I mean for me, it's half of my life, and this band was always No. 1 for me. I'm happy to have Decapitated again and be on stage after what happened in 2007. Now it is like a new beginning, and I have a totally new lineup for this band, but it is still better to be under the Decapitated banner than under any different name.

How difficult was it for you to decide to carry on the band without Vitek?

That was one of the hardest decisions in my life. Vitek was my brother and my best friend. He was such a nice guy and one of the best drummers I have ever seen. To play with him was a pure pleasure and something very, very special. After the accident, I was devastated and I couldn't imagine to even play music again and play with somebody else. Right now, I play with Kerim “Krimh” Lechner, and he is very good, but for me, it's still weird to play without Vitek. But I need to accept this, accept what happened. I think Kerim was the best choice for what I wanted to do – to play again.

Have the fans been supportive of your choosing to continue the band?

To be honest, the fans gave a lot of support to me right after the accident. They were a huge help for Covan’s family as well, through making benefit shows and placing donations for him and for Vitek's wife and daughter. There were so many shows over the world, and for all this, I want to thank again those people who helped us in those days. My decision about coming back to the stage was supported even more by my girlfriend and my closer family; also Vitek's wife.

What was your gear set-up like for the recording of Carnival Is Forever?

This is everything I used for this album: 6-string Dean ML Custom Shop, 6-string Gibson Shred V, ESP 7-string Custom Shop Seth (Behemoth) signature model. Amps: Crate Excalibur, a very old solid-state amp, probably older than me :). A Bogner Ubershall for rhythm guitars. Solos I did on an Eiesel Herbert. For clean guitars, I used a VHT Pitbull with a Marshall Valvestate. Cabinets: Mesa Boogie and Ashdown. Strings: Ernie Ball .12 to .56 and .10 to .52. Cables: Laboga. Effects: DD3 Boss, Whammy - Digitech, Bad Horsie - Vai pedal, Eventide effects pre-amp. Intune picks. EMG pickups.

Do you have a piece of gear you would consider your “secret weapon”?

Not really, but this Crate Excalibur head is for sure something I didn't expect I would use for the new record. I had so many cool heads to use, but Crate had the biggest balls … heh heh. This head is about 30 years old but still can kick ass.

How long ago did you start writing the songs for this album? Are there ideas on this album that have been around since the time of Organic Hallucinosis?

I started to write these songs with Vitek in 2006. Almost each song on this album includes ideas we made together in the past. I'm glad I could finish those ideas now. I hope he will be proud ...

Do you have any advice for young players who want to play similar music?

If you have passion for what you are doing, you just have to practice and never stop dreaming. Never give up, no matter what.

We’re premiering the song “Homo Sum” on GuitarWorld.com. Talk a little about the inspiration behind that song.

I think it's a pure Decapitated-style song. It's full of energy; a fast and intense piece of metal. What is interesting is that in the middle part, this song’s music changes to a more progressive part and the guitar, together with the drums, plays kind of a very atmospheric solo. I love to play this track.
http://www.guitarworld.com/decapitated-premiere-homo-sum-interview-waclaw-vogg-kieltyka#comments Audio Decapitated premiere News Features Tue, 28 Jun 2011 18:07:17 +0000 Josh Hart 11428 at http://www.guitarworld.com
