The San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, then Lou Reed, then Lang Lang . . . I can't wait for Metallica's collaboration with Bobby McFerrin where they perform "Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth)," "The Call of Ktulu," "Orion," "To Live Is to Die," "Suicide & Redemption," "The Ecstasy of God," and "Don't Worry, Be Happy" all a cappella.
You know it's going to happen.
:o)

Friggin' Grammy folks pulled the video that Guitar World links to, so here's another link of the crappy performance: http://youtu.be/s5YPrEN6SM8

I know they can play better. I didn't mind whoever this Lang Lang guy is, but what hurt my ears was Kirk's flatulent tone and the fact that he seems to have forgotten how to play his leads. Sure, I know he likes to change them up live, but now with One, he seems to pause in the middle of licks and tries to remember what to do next. It's very awkward. Ever since Kirk switched to Randall amps, I haven't liked his tone, he's been very hard to listen to. Hell, he hasn't had good tone since 86', but at least he wasn't ear-punishing until now (to me anyway). Kirk, go back to Marshall! You'll sound better! :P

Personally I think they should have left out the piano player. He was just showing off over top of the band and killing the atmosphere of the original song. Especially his showy intro performance. No thank you.

Metal fans are the most ungrateful people in the world. The shift to rap music has dominated music award shows for the past 5 years. Rock and heavy metal have been placed aside during these shows. Metallica does something different and people HAVE TO COMPLAIN AND BRING UP NAPSTER. Get over it and yourself. You have to be hungry and angry and not make 100 million a year?! Can you honestly reread your comment and say that wasn't the most ignorant thing a human can say? I hope you don't call yourself a heavy metal fan, because I'm embarrassed. Instead of applauding them that they are trying new things and not being stagnate, you bring them down. It's all good, because Metallica is the greatest band in the world. Go listen to Slayer that sings about the same crap over and over again. And what? Black Sabbath came back because they want to play music or they want to make a couple million this year?! Wake up and think before you write something.

Metallica has been finished for a long time now, this is just another nail in the coffin. Its hard to be metal if you aren't angry and hungry ..and its hard to be angry and hungry when you make 100 million a year. They lost me when they became record company tools in the battle with Napster. ...Good thing Sabbath is back!

Started GREAT . . .
The Piano Solo ruined the groove and then toward the end :/.

What was the point of this, if they added a great Classical pianist it would give METAL "class"??? Gimmicky and typical Grammy non-sense.

BTW -
There is a form of music done by International Artists. It was founded by its forefathers Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and Rush who used Keyboards/Piano. Was influential for the genres next phase, its founders Fates Warning and Queensryche, and progressed (with its HUGE influence/inspiration from Progressive Rock) with Dream Theater and flourishes with TONS of bands all over the world today.
. . . its called "PROG METAL" :p.

If Dream Theater played on stage - Yang Yang's jaw would have been on the floor and the audience would see how its done properly. Jordan Rudess (DT - Keyboardist) and the band would have brought the house down.
Unfortunately - it was the Grammy's ALL over again :/.
