Outside of your giants of the industry, there aren’t too many guitar brands out there with offerings that have more cross-generational appeal, musical versatility, and striking looks than Danelectro.

Guitarists looking for something with classic rock authority can find in the 3021/DC59 model the tool Jimmy Page used to create the jagged, dramatic riffs of Led Zeppelin’s titanic Kashmir, while singer/songwriters who want a reliable six-string with ample low-end and contemporary cool should take note of the ‘56 Baritone, a favourite of Phoebe Bridgers. Oh, and if you just want to break all the rules and create sonic chaos, look no further than noise-guitar pioneer Arto Lindsay, who used a Dano 12-string to craft his anarchic guitar experiments. You get the idea.

Far from resting on these lofty achievements, though, Danelectro is still innovating.

Looking at the company’s new-for-2026 ‘Dan O’ models, you’ll feel all that historical mojo. They’re a diverse lot, but the new Dan Os all exude retro cool, with visual touches that harken all the way back to the company’s ‘50s roots. But with those aesthetic flourishes come modern appointments and build quality that ensures you get all the vintage style, with none of the vintage reliability issues.

First, we’ll examine the Dan O Cool, which comes in standard 6-string, 12-string, and baritone variations.

All three share a host of none-cooler ‘50s-style appointments: a ‘54-era Bell headstock with ‘58-era Skate Key tuners, a ‘54-era rosewood saddle bridge, and (for the standard 6-string and baritone models) a U3 pickguard that first featured in Danelectro’s 1955 lineup.

Sonically, there are those classic lipstick pickups, but those found on the Dan O Cool Baritone and 6-string pack an extra punch: 30 percent more kick at the bridge and 20 percent more at the neck, respectively. Meanwhile, the 12-string’s combination of a Dual “Red Hot” lipstick humbucker at the bridge and an angled P90 at the neck can give you all the power, or jangle, you could ever want.

With a hard Canadian maple neck, rosewood 'board, and solid spruce frame, the Dan O Cools are also just as durable as they are punchy and stylish.

Those who love the Dan O Cools, but want something with a bit more pizazz, however, will definitely be drawn to the appropriately named Danelectro Golden 50’s models.

These share a lot of features with the Dan O Cools: the era-appropriate rosewood saddle bridge, Skate Key tuners, and ‘50s-style headstock; hard Canadian maple neck, rosewood 'board, and solid spruce frame; and a pair of “Red Hot” lipstick pickups with the same juiced output. But look at that design on the body!

If you want something that stands out on a stage, the starry figures (a genuine vintage design taken from a 1950’s kitchen) that dot the body of each Golden 50’s build might be just the trick.

Finally, let’s look at the fantastically named Dan O Mano.

The Dan O Mano strikes the perfect balance of modern and traditional. You have that classic Dano ‘50s look, with the same period-correct tuners, headstock, and bridge, but you’ve also got a pair of P90s, which are perfect if you want that classic style with something beefier than the lipstick pickups.

Best of all, these models punch way above the weight of their price tag. The Golden 50’s, Dan O Mano, and standard 6-string Dan O Cool have a UK SRP £689, with the Dan O Cool baritone & 12-string models boasting a UK SRP of £759. Each 6-string model also comes with a nice freebee: an adjustable saddle bridge that mounts with the same three screws as the original rosewood bridge, for an easy swap-out if players so choose.

At this price, there’s really no equivalent to the new Dan O models in terms of unique looks, sonic punch, and retro and modern cool.
