We all love a good vintage-inspired axe, right? Well then, say hello to Guild’s Surfliner electric, a brand-new-but-vintage-y guitar with a very cool offset appeal.
“Looking at it, you can see it’s influenced by the more eccentric shapes of vintage Guilds,” says our resident guitar expert, Paul Riario. “But Guild Surfliner is a wonderful and contemporary model that combines classic styling with modern features in an offset solid-body guitar.”
The Surfliner, available in Sunset Orange, Catalina Blue and White Sage
finishes, features a poplar body and C-shape satin maple neck, as well as medium jumbo frets and a 10” radius.
What’s more, “it’s got string-through-the-body design and a Tune-O-Matic bridge so you get more sustain and a lot of pop,” Paul notes.
Pickup-wise, there’s a versatile HSS configuration comprising a Guild LB-1 Little Bucker in the bridge position, as well as a pair of newly designed DeArmond Aerosonic single coils in the middle and neck slots.
“But what makes this guitar dressed to kill,” Paul says, “is Guild’s Rocker pickup switching system, which offers access to seven pickup combinations.”
The switching system features on/off switches for each pickup for everything from “crisp and jangly” to “full and thick” tones. To hear the full range of sounds, observe as Paul cycles through every pickup configuration on offer, using both clean and overdriven tones. “The real fun,” he says, “begins when you start combining them in different combinations.”
We couldn’t agree more.
Paul’s verdict? “For those looking for a guitar that’s non-traditional but instantly classic, with killer offset looks and a versatile Rocker pickup switching system that dishes out classic and unique tone combinations, look no further than the very cool Guild Surfliner as your guitar of choice.”
