Drowning Pool Return with New Album

DROWNING POOL HAVE SET July 24 as the release date for their third album, Full Circle. The album will be Drowning Pool’s second with lead singer Ryan McCombs and their first for Eleven Seven Music/ADA.

Guitarist C.J. Pierce says Full Circle shows a more melodic side of the group without sacrificing the power displayed on previous releases. The tracks include a collaboration with Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx and Beautiful Creatures’ DJ Ashba. “These songs have been with us a long time, and they’re very personal,” Pierce adds.

Among the tunes is “Soldiers,” a song written for U.S. troops. The band, which has been performing USO shows for troops in Iraq and elsewhere, has made “Soldiers” available for free download through the USO’s MySpace page, myspace.com/usoworldheadquarters,

“During the past year and a half, we have been fortunate to spend a great deal of time with American soldiers overseas,” bassist Stevie Benton saysa. “After returning from the Persian Gulf, our priority was writing a song about our troops and for our troops. I hope they will accept the song as a show of our respect and thanks for all they do for our country.”

Adds Pierce, “This is not only for American troops but for troops in all countries fighting for peace.”

In addition, Drowning Pool will donate $1 from each ticket sold on their upcoming U.S. tour to the USO.

Drowning Pool’s resilience is noteworthy. The band’s debut, Sinners, was released in 2001 and went Platinum in six months on the strength of its first single, “Bodies.” While on tour with the group during summer 2002, lead singer Dave Williams died from a rare heart disease. The band carried on with McCombs, a close friend who had previously sung with SOiL.

Shortly after its release, “Bodies” became an anthem to U.S. soldiers overseas who played the track before flying missions over Iraq. Drowning Pool responded with USO concerts for troops in Iraq and elsewhere. In addition to the free “Soldiers” download, the band’s video for “Bodies” — which features footage from Drowning Pool’s time overseas — is available for free stream at myspace.com/drowningpool.
