So, as our thoughts turn to the gigs we've reported on, witnessed and celebrated in recent weeks and months, we thought we'd get our readers — as in, you! — involved as we attempt to pick rock's greatest live band or artist!

The book, Van Halen: 40 Years of the Great American Rock Band, tells you everything you ever wanted to know about Eddie Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Michael Anthony, Alex Van Halen and Sammy Hagar.
"Running With the Devil" began the career of one of rock's most enduring bands with quite a bang. As the lead-off track on Van Halen's diamond selling, self-titled 1978 debut album, it made quite the impression.

Thirty-five years ago last week, on March 25, 1979, Van Halen kicked off their first headlining tour following the release of their second album, Van Halen II. Their first world tour took place a year earlier, when they opened for Journey and Black Sabbath.
