Van Halen’s recent Jimmy Kimmel Live performance affords an almost perfect glimpse of Eddie Van Halen’s legendarily unique approach to tremolo picking. The incredible speed and consistency of his take on this technique has been a source of fascination for 35 years.
A mere three days after shutting down Hollywood Boulevard for a special Jimmy Kimmel Live performance, Van Halen appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier today. The band opened with “Jump” and went right into “Dance the Night Away,” which is available on Ellen‘s website. You can watch "Jump" below.
It took a few decades, but Van Halen finally performed on live TV in the U.S. with David Lee Roth. Last night, a portion of Hollywood Boulevard was shut down so the band could perform before a crowd of about 6,000 die-hard fans (and a few last-minute stragglers) for ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live. It was the band's first U.S. TV appearance with its original lead singer.
Van Halen will tour North America this summer and fall in support of their new live album, Tokyo Dome Live in Concert. The tour, which will feature David Lee Roth at vocals, is expected to kick off July 5 in Seattle and wrap up October 2 in Los Angeles.

Van Halen have confirmed the March 31 release of Tokyo Dome Live in Concert, their first live album to feature David Lee Roth. The album, which was recorded June 21, 2013, at the Tokyo Dome in Japan, includes 23 songs that span all seven of the band’s albums with Roth. It will be released as a double CD, digitally and as a four-LP set on 180-gram vinyl.
The limited-edition Eddie Van Halen Guitar World Box Set includes all four Guitar World February 2009 issues, each of which has a unique cover photo featuring Eddie Van Halen with a different version of his new EVH Wolfgang guitar.
