In an exclusive Dear Guitar Hero segment with Guitar World, former Guns N' Roses bassist -- and current Loaded guitarist -- Duff McKagan repsonds to an anonymous question about how to stay faithful on the road.
"I don’t have a problem with that," says McKagan, who is married. "You turn road-gay on the road. After about 10 days, the fellas in your band start looking really good. [laughs] I don’t know. For me, I’ve got kids. I think cheating would be bullshit, just to get your d**k in something else. And to live with that guilt...
"Back when I was single and Guns were on the Illusions tour, chicks were, like, left and right. They were falling over themselves. And I saw the sadness in that. The first six months of that, it’s like, 'Killer! Chicks are hot. They’re into me.' And then you realize they’re not really into you. They’re into the guy they saw on the JumboTron. They look at you like you’re not human -- like you’re some rock god. Which you’re not. You’re just a guy. So I do meet a lot of killer people on the road. I just don’t f**k ’em." [laughs]
The complete Dear Guitar Hero interview with Duff -- in which the rocker also talks about his airport run-in with Kurt Cobain shortly before the Nirvana frontman's suicide, his feelings on working with volatile vocalists Axl Rose and Scott Weiland, and his battle with alcohol abuse -- will appear in the July issue of Guitar World, on sale May 5.
