The master picker shows you “how to get the most bang for your buck” in your six-string search
It’s quite possible that the only thing more fun than playing guitar is… going shopping for new guitars! But that said, there’s a lot of gear to choose from these days. How to find the guitar that’s just right for you? Take a tip from blues ace Justin Johnson, who has purchased a guitar or two in his day and is here to show us “how to get the most bang for your buck when you’re guitar shopping.”
How does Justin do this? By heading over to top online retailer ProAudioStar.com. “I’m going to be working with a budget of around $1,500,” he says, “and going online at ProAudioStar.com to pick the best, most versatile guitar I can find.”
Justin begins by simply heading to the Guitars & Bass section of the site, clicking on Electric Guitars, and narrowing his price range to the desired budget – between $800 and $2,000.
From there, he starts his search.

First up is a PRS S2 Single Cut McCarty 594 in Elephant Grey, which ProAudioStar.com has available for $1,899. Justin checks out the features and photos, decides he likes what he sees, and adds it to his cart so he can return to it before he makes his final decision.
Next, he stops on a PRS S2 Standard 24 in Antique White for $1,649. Just as he did with the McCarty, he reads through the features and pops it in the cart.
Finally, he decides to look at something a bit different – a Fender Player Plus Stratocaster HSS in Silverburst for $1,129.99. He adds the Strat as well, and then goes to his cart to compare and contrast all three instruments.

His decision? The PRS S2 Standard 24.
“I keep coming back to this one,” Justin says. “When I think of all three, I want to play this one the most. It calls out to me.”
Next, we get to watch Justin unbox his new PRS and try it out in his home studio. The verdict?
“Man, what a cool guitar,” he says. “It’s very, very versatile, and I think versatility is the key as far as what I look for when I’m shopping in this price range.”
