Eight Amazing Female Acoustic Players

Someone who isn't all that well known (unless you've seen her play fingerstyle acoustic guitar) is my nomination for this list, Tena Moyer. She is a singer/songwriter from SoCal who moved to Arizona a few years ago to begin her medical practice. She is so stunning, from her solo acoustic version of the Beatles' "Penny Lane", to the jazzy "Flintstones" theme (a couple of cuts from her CD, "Shining Through"). And, her original tunes are very moving - who & what she writes about can get to you.
Also, Janet Robin's inclusion on your list is fantastic - she's such a super-artist!

I am familiar with all of the artists presented. I want to second the Berta Rojas recommendation. If you have never listened to South American classical and popular guitar music you are in for a treat. There are sound bites on her website http://www.bertarojas.com/en/#. Like any music, to truly experience the magic of her playing try to catch her performing in an intimate setting. Live the music!

I must be getting old. There was a time that no list of woman guitar players would ever leave off Ani diFranco. Whatever happened to her? She used to be bigger than sliced bread.

I smile every time I see Muriel Anderson mentioned in any article. She is at the top of my list, for sure.

Other incredible female guitarists that I enjoy listening to are Filomena Moretti and Berta Rojas, for classical, and Macyn Taylor, for contemporary style.

There are so many wonderful musicians out there it is difficult to keep up, but I try.

Great article, by the way.

Impressive list, I had heard of some of these guitarists, namely Gabriela Qunitero, Nancy Wilson and Kaki King. But the others were great finds. I enjoyed Janet Robin and Muriel Anderson in particular.

I'd love to see a list of electric guitarists as well. I'd recommend Charlotte Hatherley for such a list, seriously great lead guitar player. A great album to hear her playing is Ash's Meltdown, check out the solos on "Meltdown", "Starcrossed" and "Detonator" in particular. And there is her solo output and live work with KT Tunstall as well.

I love lists that introduce me to new artists that I haven't heard of yet.
