How Eventide ushered in a new era for the H9 and made one of the world’s most acclaimed multi-effects more intuitive than ever
The next-gen version of the H9 Harmonizer is here – and it’s been given a serious overhaul
In the world of advanced multi-effects units, the Eventide H9 lineup has spent the last 10 years near the very top of the pile – and for good reason.
The hugely acclaimed work stations, which can be found on countless pro and casual pedalboards alike across the planet, has cemented themselves as the go-to solution for guitarists on the hunt for studio-grade effects, seamless usability and extensive rig compatibility.
Now, 13 years after it made its debut, the H9 has been updated for a new era in the form of the H9 Harmonizer Gen 2 – a next-gen multi-effects that elevates the platform to new heights.
There was already a lot to love about the H9, so it’s no surprise that Eventide has kept the core components while refining and updating some key tonal and functional elements.
Most notably, it introduces a new form factor and synthesized workflow, reformatting the pedal with a larger screen, more onboard parameters controls, and two footswitches. The result is a faster, more intuitive workflow, offering faster access to all of Eventide’s acclaimed effects.
That means no menu deep-diving. No operation confusion. No fiddling with secondary controls or getting lost working through presets. Instead, controls are easily and readily accessible straight from the pedal itself through four core modes: Select, Perform, Presets and Parameters.
From there, you can browse, edit, organize, select and play through all the onboard effects without any steep learning curve.
Further still, it also retains the compact layout that made the original H9 such a hit among players – especially gigging and casual guitarists who value pedalboard real estate and like to travel light.
Don’t be fooled by the size, though, because the H9 Harmonizer Gen 2 is as powerful as it gets. It comes equipped with 74 algorithms, all from the H90 lineup, and more than 1,000 onboard presets, with seamless effects spillover when switching between sounds.
That is an absurdly generous array of effects algorithms, one that will comfortably cover all the bases you’ll ever need while simultaneously supporting experimentation to help you discover a new world of effects.
There are a range of legendary Eventide effects on tap, spanning delay, reverb, pitch, granular, looping, vocal FX and much more, all of which are dictated by that new-and-improved workflow.
Powering all of this is modern ARM processing to ensure fast and speedy operation, which also allows for polyphonic pitch shifting through Eventide’s cutting edge proprietary Spectral Instantaneous Frequency Tracking (SIFT) tech.
Elsewhere, stereo operation, MIDI support, dual instrument and line level I/O, and more flexible routing options means it will seamlessly fit into any rig – from recording studio setups to large show pedalboards.
The H9 Harmonizer Gen 2 is available worldwide for $599.
