Wow, no mention of the techniques of players such as Brett Garsed or TJ Helmerich in this article? Shameful.

In example 3 how are you meant to play the C for the fifth note after just having played the A on the fourth note. I assume you use your pinky for the A. I don't see how you could play those two notes cleanly & evenly. Someone please help.

It's a slide, man, just slide your pinky from A to C

Didn't Malmsteen once said that he wasn't influenced by Jimi Hendrix?

avatar

Hendrix1970

I've seen interviews when he's said that he was just all noise.. so um.. Who knows

He's said a lot of stuff. He's listed Hendrix amoung his influences though. Even gave his two cents in an article on a magazine celebrating his birthday or something. He's a Hendrix fan and has been influenced

the pics dont match the names you spelled in the artical.

I've added this to my repertoire when it came out in GW. I'm up to three string sweeps now! Is this a Possibility is the condition or fact of being possible.

Yngwie Malmsteen too fast - it all sounds like sweeps

Alexi Laiho not a true sweeper

Synyster Gates sucks at sweeps

Paul Gilbert is the only guitarist that truely does this correctly. Bruce "Einstein" Bouillet shows a perfect technique for sweeps on LIVE
On a rating of 1 o 5
Tony MacAlpine, 1
Jason Becker, 2
Steve Vai, did not know
Mattias “IA” Eklundh, who is this
Ritchie Kotzen, not
Marty Friedman, hummm 3
John Petrucci, no
Vinnie Moore, yes
Jeff Loomis, k
Synyster Gates, 0
Alexi Laiho and -2
Tosin Abasi needs to use a pick through entire technique

Justin Ringeisen

You need to expand your definition of what sweeping is and what makes someone a proficient user of the technique and if you are only to three string sweeps then you should not be critiquing other peoples technique especially those who do it professionally. This isn't meant to come off as a rude comment but you have to step back and understand that you are not of a proficiency to judge others at this stage of development in your playing. Most players who play lead generally have used some degree of sweeping whether they realize it or not, it is not just used for rapid fire arpeggios. Also though Paul Gilbert does use sweeping he has said he prefers to use string skips and also I can assure you that pretty much everyone you put down is very proficient in the technique but use it to varying degrees. One last thing to remember is that music and technique aren't some competition, technique is a medium to convey the song.

Agree, names are incorrect from the pix, but this is not a top 20 list of who is who, give me a break. Your suggestion or whatever, not even close.
