Yvette Young has a new piece of signature gear – and it might be the one stop shop for all the ambient prog rock tones you’ve been waiting for
Young has a unveiled a new Mixwave plugin that has a treasure trove of toys to play with
Mixwave has teamed up with ethereal guitar and math rock sensation Yvette Young for her first signature plugin.
The Mixwave: Yvette Young package is a faithful recreation of Young’s signature sound, which relies heavily on hand-wired Vox AC30 combo amps. It’s a simple one-amp-and-cabinet setup, bolstered by Alnico Blue and Greenback speaker options, with a range of mic selection options and Impulse Responses in place to maximize its mileage.
It comes fully loaded with nine pedals and effects, bringing Young’s trick-filled pedalboard and live rig to the digital realm. There’s an “immersive” reverb, “dark analog delay”, and a harmonic tremolo, with a “classic analog-inspired chorus”, and a compressor promising “exceptional sustain” also on offer.
The lot is rounded out with a modern-voiced overdrive, a “raw and reactive” fuzz pedal, and a synth-like octaver, while a lo-fi modulator – by far the most unique pick of the bunch – makes dialing in Young’s most hazy and dreamy tones as easy as pie.
That pedal has been crafted to deliver a “warped and unpredictable character” which adds texture and movement to guitar signals, complete with Speed, Depth, Offset, and Mix controls, as well as Wave, Bright, and Sync mini-switches.
Players can rearrange their signal chain as they wish. But the collab hasn't called it quits there.
The plugin also benefits from a built-in EQ and compressor, a Transpose feature, plus controls for Focus, Contour, and Vibe, which smooth out harsh frequencies, provide “elegant” EQ-ing, and enhance top-end harmonics, respectively. And there’s a tuner, of course.

“You can customize like crazy,” Young says. “There’s a whole lot to explore, and I’m just at the tip of the iceberg!”
The plugin is priced at $139 but is currently sold at the introductory price of $99, with a 14-day free trial for the tonally curious.
It joins Yvette's growing stable of signature gear, which currently includes her Ibanez Talman and Walrus Audio Qi Etherealizer pedal.

Elsewhere, Young recently discussed how she ended up in a Super Bowl commercial and the realities of going viral.
