Here's a video of Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci playing and discussing Ernie Ball's new Cobalt guitar strings. Ernie Ball recently announced the new line of electric bass and guitar strings, which is made out of cobalt, the most magnetically active material. Ernie Ball's patent pending advancement in technology stems from a nine-year pursuit in researching materials that give guitarists and bassists a new-and-improved voice.
Look around you. There seems to be a seven-string renaissance happening at the moment. Actually, eight-string guitars seem to be going pretty strong, too. But there's something particularly satisfying about plugging in a seven and riffing out in between the traditional ranges of the guitar and bass.

Guitar World checked out the Music Man booth at last week's 2012 Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, California, to see what's new -- namely the Music Man JP12 guitar.
