Gibson Donates Hendrix Flying V to Benefit Abused Kids
A limited-edition prototype of Gibson Guitars' Jimi Hendrix Flying V will be the centerpiece of an auction fundraiser to benefit abused children in the Philippines.
The guitar is one of 300 examples Gibson built for its "Inspired By" series. The hand-painted guitars are modeled on the Flying V that Hendrix painted and played. Donated by Gibson, the Flying V to be auctioned is the fifth of six prototypes created before the production run of 300 were built. The guitar is estimated to be worth upwards of $15,000.
The auction will take place at a benefit dinner on Wednesday, April 11, in support of HOPE worldwide to benefit the organization’s work at its center for abused children in Laguna, Philippines. Janie Hendrix, CEO and President of Experience Hendrix, LLC will attend the dinner, to take place at Roy’s, 800 S. Figueroa St., in Los Angeles. She will provide a certificate of authenticity and sign the instrument for the highest bidder.
Bidders need not attend the dinner to participate; the charity section of eBay, accessible starting April 2 at https://www.ginaalexander.com/philanthropy.htm will offer the guitar to online bidders.
