The Setlist: Kerry King of Slayer's 2006 Tour Set List
Slayer Guitarist: Kerry King June 6, 2006 Continental Airlines Arena East Rutherford, New Jersey "SOUTH OF HEAVEN" “We had been opening with ‘Disciple’ since God Hates Us All came out [in 2001], but we like to keep things fresh so it was time to change it. ‘South of Heaven’ is a classic Slayer cut, so it was an obvious choice to lead things off this time around. Plus, it makes a theatrical way to open the show, because I have my back to the audience until the opening riff is done, and then I turn to face them.” "SILENT SCREAM" “I don’t think we had played ‘Silent Scream’ in the States since Dave [Lombardo, drums] left the band in 1991.” "BLOOD RED" “ ‘Blood Red’ is another new addition for this tour. We did it in Europe about a year ago, and the fans dug it. I always take it upon myself to put something special in the set for all the people who come and see us every time we tour.” "CULT" “ ‘Cult’ is probably my favorite song to play on this tour, because it’s a new lead and I’m not burned out on it.” "ANGEL OF DEATH" “I never get tired of playing ‘Angel of Death.' It’s always fun to play. We didn’t perform it when we did Ozzfest in 2004 because we only had 50 minutes and we knew we’d be headlining our own tour in a few months. We said, ‘You want us to play “Angel of Death”? Come see us when we headline!’ ” "DIMEBAG" “A tribute to Dime. My tech, Armand [Crump], did that. Dime was probably my best friend in the industry. I miss that crazy fucker.” DUNLOP ZAKK WYLDE WAH "It’s got a really dirty, low-end sweep that a regular wah doesn’t have, and it’s got Zakk’s vibe without having his sound. Plus it’s fun to play with.” Q ZONE PEDAL “I use the Q Zone when I don’t need a more obvious wah effect. It gives you the sound of a wah without the big bass-to-treble sweep.” "K*F*K" “An acronym for Kerry Fucking King!” A/B SWITCH “The A/B switch takes me from my crunch sound to my clean tone. Basically, it switches from my Marshall 2203s to a direct-injected signal. Needless to say, I hardly ever step on that one.”
