Following their in-progress annual run at New York City’s Beacon Theatre this month with 15 shows, the Allman Brothers Band will continue celebrating their 40th anniversary by embarking on a 60-date U.S. tour, billed as “40 Years of Highs & Lows.” The first leg of dates will bring the rock and roll icons to the West Coast for the first time in four years, with the Doobie Brothers sharing the stage at most shows. Three other legs are pending for the massive tour.
- Honorees of Billboard magazine’s "Legends of Live" award this past November, the Allman Brothers Band will kick off the tour with two "Evening With" shows at Oakland, CA’s Fox Theatre May 12 and 13. Next, they’ll head north to perform in Portland, OR, with the Doobie Brothers before appearing at the Gorge May 16 for a spectacular triple lineup including the Dead and the Doobie Brothers. Back-to-back shows with the Doobies at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles -- May 19 and 20 -- will follow along with other Southern California shows before ending Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas, NV, at the Red Rock Casino for “An Evening With.”
- Meanwhile, the ABB’s current run at New York City’s Beacon Theatre has brought out a who’s-who of musician friends. Late last week, Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell of Phish sat in during “Southbound,” “I Know You Rider” and “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.” That same night (Thursday 3/12), Buddy Guy also joined Anastasio and McConnell for “Southbound” and performed with the group on “The Sky Is Crying” and “You Don’t Love Me.” Friday night’s highlights included appearances by Boz Scaggs, the Asbury Jukes’ horn section and Bruce Willis on harp, while Saturday’s set saw pedal steel ace Robert Randolph and Return To Forever’s bassist Stanley Clarke drummer Lenny White, and jazz horn legend Randy Brecker on trumpet.
All 15 of the Beacon shows are being broadcast on the cutting-edge webcast moogis.com, which has received an overwhelmingly positive response from fans who have subscribed.
The Allman Brothers Band -- GREGG ALLMAN (vocals and keyboards), BUTCH TRUCKS (drums and tympani), JAIMOE (drums), WARREN HAYNES (vocals, lead and slide guitar), DEREK TRUCKS (slide and lead guitar), OTEIL BURBRIDGE (bass) and MARC QUINONES (congas and percussion) -- are delivering sets that vary every night, pulling from their vast catalog of iconic American rock (“Whipping Post,” “Midnight Rider,” “Statesboro Blues,” “Mountain Jam,” “Melissa”) and select covers of songs by their favorite musicians.
In addition to this outing, the ABB will host and headline the 5th annual Wanee Music Festival June 5 and 6 in Live Oak, FL, featuring an eclectic group of like-minded musicians including Gov’t Mule, Derek Trucks Band, the Doobie Brothers, Toots and the Maytals, Little Feat, Umphrey’s McGee, the Wailers, Drive-By Truckers, and more.
