Smashing Pumpkins Booked for Two Letterman Appearances
The Smashing Pumpkins will make their first televised performance since 2000 when they bookend the week of July 9 on The Late Show with David Letterman. The group will perform Monday, July 9, and Friday, July 13.
These appearances coincide with the July 10 release of Zeitgeist (Martha’s Music/Reprise), the band’s sixth album and first of new material since 2000. Zeitgeist features the single “Tarantula,” currently on Billboard’s Hot Modern Rock and Hot Mainstream Rock charts.
In addition, the band has just wrapped almost a month’s worth of overseas dates, where it alternated festival headlining performances with headlining shows. The band features two of its key founding members, singer and guitarist Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. For this tour, the duo are joined by guitarist Jeff Schroeder, bassist Ginger Reyes and keyboardist Lisa Harriton.
Later this month, the Pumpkins will play a nine-show residency at the Orange Peel in Asheville, NC, and an 11-show run at the historic Fillmore in San Francisco. Set lists will vary from night to night and include songs that didn’t make it onto Zeitgeist as well as tunes written the day of the show.
