The folks at Fender have just announced a brand new acoustic guitar fit for a king -- the Elvis Kingman, a guitar meant to evoke "the freewheeling Fender acoustic that Elvis Presley wielded with consummate cool in ’67 cinematic romp Clambake."
The Fender Custom Shop honors the famous Nocaster with the release of the 1951 New Old Stock (NOS) Nocaster and the 1951 Relic Nocaster. Both models feature a hand-selected ash body with a Nocaster Blonde finish and include all-new Twisted Tele pickups designed by Fender’s Master Builders, giving the model’s historical significance and modern performance. For added authentic feel, the 1951 Relic Nocaster features special aging treatment, evoking the magic of an aged, Fender classic.
Fender has introduce its new top-of-the-production-line best: the Fender Select series. Designed as “Select instruments for select individuals,” the five guitars and two basses in the series are true players’ instruments that put more than six decades of Fender experience and expertise on outstandingly appointed display and bring a wealth of high-end features and elegant design options to discerning musicians everywhere.
Fender has introduced the Johnny Marr Signature Jaguar, which puts the inventive ringing sounds and highly distinctive design mods of one of the U.K.’s greatest modern-era guitarists into a truly unique variation on a classic Fender guitar model.
I initially was going to keep this list short and sweet, but when it comes to stompboxes, how do you stop? Effects are like potato chips in that you just can’t expect me to offer you a handful because you’ll want the whole bag -- and besides, there are so many flavors of overdrive, modulation, delay, etc., that it’s nearly impossible to pick a top five. So I’ve decided to make it a top 10.
This has been an interesting year in amplifiers. Never before have I seen so much tweakability on the front and top control panels of the many amplifiers that have shown up at our door here at Guitar World. The emergence of numerous slider-switches, mini-toggles and push buttons seem to have suddenly taken up real estate normally reserved for control knobs of amplifiers!
During this holiday season, I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve been asked to recommend a good acoustic. Considering that there are so many great acoustics to check out, it would be difficult for me to use this space to cover each one because they are available at just about every price point so that the question actually becomes, “Well, how much are you willing to spend?”
