Fender has introduced four new models to its Pawn Shop series: the Pawn Shop Offset Special, the Pawn Shop Jaguarillo, the Pawn Shop Fender Mustang Special, and the line’s first bass guitar, the Pawn Shop Reverse Jaguar Bass.
Longtime Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo released Between The Times And Tides, his first purely song-oriented, non-experimental solo outing, March 20 on Matador Records. The album, a disc full of shimmering, melodic guitar-based rock, is also aptly titled, since it comes at what is — at best — a "between" period for Sonic Youth fans, whose husband-and-wife heroes, Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon, announced their divorce late last year.
It hadn’t occurred to me that recording with an electric guitar would be all that different from recording acoustic. I was wrong. Over the years, I have developed a decent working knowledge of Pro Tools and have access to some nice mics. I’ve learned the proper mic’ing technique for recording acoustic guitar and have experimented with mic placement, mixing in the built-in pickup track, EQ-ing and more in order to get a pretty good acoustic recording.
Fender’s American Standard series guitars and basses have been upgraded for 2012, resulting in the latest iterations of the Telecaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass and Jazz Bass. The new instruments now feature Fender Custom Shop pickups, as well as other new design touches.
